Logo Variations

A brief guide to understanding the different logo variations provided in your brand package.

Primary Logo

This is your “main” logo, and one you’ll likely use the most often. It contains details and additions that. other logos may not have, including (not always), established date, tag lines, location or details specific to your brand. This version of your logo stands well on it’s own, and works well where there is a lot of space. All other versions of your brand are based off of this logo.

Best places to use: website headers, business cards and marketing collateral.

Secondary Logos

Secondary logos are exactly what they’re called, secondary to your main logo, but still easily identifiable as your brand. These are usually more refined, simplistic versions of your Primary Logo, and often in an alternate orientation to your primary logo. This logo can also be used on it’s own, and is meant to work well in spaces where there is less room to work with.

Best places to use: social sharing, invoices and smaller marketing collateral.

Submarks

A submark is the most refined, pared-down version of your primary logo, and works well when you have limited space. Usually submarks will contain a small part of your primary logo, and minimal type. Occasionally more than one submark is created for use in different scenarios and spaces.

Best places to use: website footers, stickers, stationery, profile photos and favicons.

Logo File Types

An explanation on the types of files in your Brand Folder, and how to use them.

.ai

These files are the native files to your brand, and are included for myself (or a future designer) to use if edits are necessary. Fonts are outlined for consistency purposes, but you should never need to use these.

.eps

One of the most important files in your folder, an .eps file allows your logo to be resized without any compromising quality or resolution. This version of your logo would be required for printing, and would prevent an outside source from altering the layout or composition in anyway.

.jpg

A .jpg file is a raster file, meaning that it has a specific number of pixels in it. In short, if you make this logo larger than it was intended to be, it will be pixelated. JPGs are incredibly useful though, and are good for social media, and for use in software like Canva. This is always given to you at 300dpi, which makes it useful for both web and print.

.png

A .png is similar to a .jpg, but it has the ability to have a transparent background. Why is that important? A .png file can be used on top of other images without a white background. This is useful for your website, social media, or building layered images in Canva.
